Irene Henry, a married, mother of two, and grandmother, is a hardworking 30-year Westside resident. She inherited her steadfast work ethic and aptitude to strive and succeed from her mother, Maria Guadalupe, who raised four children - often working three jobs to keep a roof over her children's heads.  She was also inspired by her grandfather, Jesus Rocha, who believed education was empowerment.  And, just like her mother, Irene would often work two to three jobs during college and later law school, becoming the first in her family to graduate.

While raising her family, Irene started a successful business, and volunteered extensively with various civic organizations, governmental entities, and in the community:

  • Founding member of the Westside Community Council

  • Founding member of the Downtown Ventura Organization

  • Two-year term Board President of the Boys & Girls Club, leading a $1 million capital campaign fund

  • Served on the first Ventura Water Rate Committee, now Water Commission

  • 20-year member of Ventura Downtown Rotary and past Rotary President

  • 10-year High School Volleyball Coach

  • Ventura College Foundation Scholarship Donor

  • Served with the Personal Insurance Federation as a Safety Advocate in Sacramento, working on legislative issues facing consumers, the insurance industry, etc. specifically dealing with defensible space in fire areas and enhanced building codes for safer homes.

  • Serves as the Ventura High School Rotary Advisor

  • Volunteers at the City Center

  • Published co-author of "In The Drink: Surviving the Alcoholic"

A dedicated and proven leader, keen businesswoman, experienced government player, a truly independent voice with the skill and desire to collaborate; Irene is the best choice to represent District 1 and the City of Ventura.
